Leadership Change at First Super
Michael McQueen has officially taken over as the head of investments at First Super effective July 1, succeeding Chris Artis, who will continue in a consulting capacity. McQueen has an extensive background in the Australian industry superannuation sector, previously serving in senior roles at Prime Super and Media Super.
Chris Artis expressed his gratitude in a LinkedIn post, describing his experience at First Super as “rewarding” and confident in McQueen’s abilities to maintain and enhance the fund’s investment success.
Greg Everett, acting Chief Executive Officer of First Super, noted that McQueen’s appointment is timely, highlighting his unique combination of investment expertise and governance discipline. McQueen is poised to advance the fund’s investment strategy, focusing on delivering long-term value for its members.
Looking ahead, McQueen aims to reinforce First Super’s investment capabilities, emphasizing the importance of a disciplined approach in an increasingly complex financial market.
This leadership change comes on the heels of the departure of long-serving CEO Bill Watson, who resigned in January after 13 years at the helm, and has since taken on a role as Chief Investment Officer at BUSSQ, managing A$7.5 billion.
First Super, a member-based superannuation fund, serves nearly 80,000 members and oversees over A$5.7 billion in assets.
