Special to the Times

Miles College has been awarded a significant $1 million in permanent endowment capital as one of the 12 UNCF member institutions selected for a historic $12 million gift from the James and Judith K. Dimon Foundation. This generous contribution establishes the Dimon Fund to Advance Economic Opportunity, directly enhancing the endowments of the chosen Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The strengthened endowment positions Miles College to plan strategically for the future, invest in its students and academic programs, and effectively address institutional needs.

Dr. Bobbie Knight, President of Miles College, emphasized the transformative potential of the investment: “This investment represents more than a generous gift to Miles College; it is an investment in our ability to serve generations of scholars yet to come. Building a strong endowment gives institutions like ours the capacity to think beyond the needs of today, expand opportunity, strengthen academic pathways, and prepare our students to lead in fields where their talents are deeply needed.”

Dr. Erskine Faush Jr., Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Development at Miles College, added, “Endowment growth is an important part of advancing President Knight’s vision for Miles College and ensuring that the progress we make today continues well beyond our generation.”

This crucial investment not only strengthens the institution’s immediate capacity but also sets the stage for future academic growth and opportunities for students. It underscores the vital role sustained investment plays in enhancing the capabilities of HBCUs to adapt and respond to evolving needs.

As Miles College continues to expand its academic offerings and community partnerships, this endowment will facilitate long-term growth and innovation, ensuring the school remains a leader in preparing scholars for a complex global workforce.

The award highlights the lasting impact that HBCUs can have when equipped with the resources to envision and create a brighter future for their students and communities.
