Timbers owner Merritt Paulson calls on Portland to support the Trail Blazers and invest in the community.

Merritt Paulson, owner of the Timbers, expressed his views on the ongoing negotiations between the Trail Blazers and new owner Tom Dundon regarding renovations at the Moda Center. He emphasized the importance of the Blazers to Portland’s identity, stating they “can’t move” and are “massively critical” to the city’s culture and economic vitality. Paulson urged elected officials to recognize the urgency of the situation, highlighting that investment goes beyond just the franchise; it includes the community. He pointed out the need for improvements at Providence Park, the Timbers’ stadium, which is city-owned, echoing concerns over the region’s attractiveness for investment. Paulson has personally contributed $145 million for infrastructure upgrades while maintaining a respectful tone in negotiations, in contrast to Dundon’s team’s approach.
