GNC Partners Exclusively with DFI Retail Group
New Distribution Partnership
Pittsburgh-based health supplement company GNC has announced an exclusive distribution partnership with DFI Retail Group, the parent company of Guardian. This collaboration will make GNC’s wide range of products, including vitamins, minerals, and sports nutrition, available in both Guardian’s online and offline stores, as well as GNC’s own standalone locations, starting in Q4 of this year.
Background on GNC’s Store Leases
In November of last year, it was reported that GNC Holdings LLC was assessing store leases previously managed by its former franchisee in Singapore. This evaluation followed a ruling from the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) affirming GNC’s rights to these locations. DFI currently distributes GNC products through standalone stores and in Mannings across Hong Kong.
Expanded Role for DFI
Under the new partnership, DFI will act as GNC’s exclusive wholesaler, distributor, and franchisee in Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore. This partnership represents a shift in GNC’s retail strategy in Singapore, where the company had a previous exclusive deal with Watsons that began in October 2024. GNC has a long history in Singapore, having entered the market in 1997, and will now seek to strengthen its presence there.
Transition from Watsons
During its time with Watsons, GNC implemented a “store-within-store” concept, providing dedicated space for GNC products. Last September, GNC announced that its products became available across all Watsons locations in Singapore.
Legal Developments and Future Plans
The recent decision by the Singapore Court of Appeal, which reinforced GNC’s rights to take over former store leases, has facilitated the re-establishment of standalone GNC stores. Cheri Mullen, GNC’s chief global franchise and wholesale officer, expressed optimism about expanding GNC’s footprint and enhancing market presence while continuing to offer quality wellness solutions.
This partnership and the accompanying legal victories signal an important shift for GNC as it aims to reclaim and strengthen its market position in the region.
