Steelers Secure Defensive Tackle Keeanu Benton with Five-Year Contract – Butler Eagle

The Pittsburgh Steelers have solidified their defense by signing defensive tackle Keeanu Benton to a five-year contract worth $73.75 million. Benton, 25, recently enjoyed the best season of his career with notable stats including 51 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks, contributing to the Steelers’ AFC North title.

Coach Mike McCarthy praised Benton, noting his potential for further growth and emphasizing the team’s respect for his contributions. The agreement ensures that Benton will be a key player in the defense, especially as the team transitions after the eventual retirement of long-serving captain Cam Heyward.

In recent years, the Steelers have focused on enhancing their defensive line, adding younger talent alongside veterans. Benton joins other recent draft picks, such as Nick Herbig and Darnell Washington, in securing new contracts before hitting free agency. Meanwhile, cornerback Joey Porter Jr.’s future remains uncertain as he deals with a back injury.
