I-TEAM: Lucas County to Cease Israeli Investments Due to Budget Constraints

Lucas County, Ohio, is concluding its $5 million investment in Israeli bonds, primarily due to financial need rather than political pressure. The decision, announced by Treasurer Lindsay Webb, is a response to the county’s liquidity requirements and aims to ensure cash availability for budgeting. While there was significant public concern over the ethical implications of investing in Israeli bonds amidst ongoing conflicts, Webb emphasized that the investment decision was purely financial. Over the last three years, the bonds generated about $800,000 in interest. The county will also liquidate additional investments maturing by year-end, totaling approximately $46 million.
