JBS USA to Transform Souderton Plant, Preserve 400 Jobs
Souderton, PA — In a significant development for the local economy, JBS USA has announced plans to convert its Souderton beef-processing plant into a value-added and case-ready facility. The transformation involves an investment of over $30 million spread across the next decade, aiming to retain approximately 400 jobs at this Montgomery County location.
Although the new plan ensures a path forward for the facility, traditional beef harvesting and processing operations will conclude on August 14, as previously scheduled by the company. This investment aims to modernize the plant and expand its capacity for preparing and packaging meat products tailored for retail markets throughout the Northeast.

CEO Wesley Batista Filho emphasized the importance of this transition: “This outcome allows us to preserve 400 good-paying jobs, strengthen our case-ready business, and continue serving customers in a key consumer market.”
The future of the Souderton facility had been uncertain following JBS’s earlier June announcement to discontinue beef harvesting operations—a change that threatened the positions of approximately 1,500 workers represented by UFCW Local 1776 and an additional 250 management employees.

State officials have expressed that while the preservation of 400 jobs is a positive outcome, there is still concern for those affected by the cessation of harvesting operations. State Senator Maria Collett stated, “No amount of job loss is something to celebrate… But I am grateful that hundreds of families in SD 12 were spared that outcome.”
