Foods to Consume and Avoid During Sawan: An Ayurvedic Perspective

The holy month of Sawan (Shravan) is a significant period for many Hindus, marked by devotion, fasting, and a focus on simple living. Coinciding with the peak of the monsoon, this season presents unique challenges for digestion, as noted in Ayurveda.

During Varsha Ritu (the rainy season), the digestive fire, or agni, is believed to weaken. This makes individuals more susceptible to digestion issues and food-borne illnesses. As a result, traditional diets during Sawan emphasize warm, freshly cooked, and light meals while avoiding heavy or difficult-to-digest foods, which are more prone to contamination in humid weather.

These age-old dietary practices not only cater to spiritual needs but also align with modern food safety concerns.
