Ashish Dhawan emphasizes the urgent need for a trillion-dollar investment in India’s manufacturing sector over the next decade to create 40-50 million jobs and elevate exports from $450 billion to $2 trillion. In an interview with Shereen Bhan on “Young Turks Reloaded,” he points out that current manufacturing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stands at only $20-$22 billion, a figure he believes is critical as it leads to job creation, technology advancement, and factory establishment.
He argues that with improved infrastructure, better industrial policies, and a global shift away from Chinese supply chains, the conditions for entrepreneurship in India have significantly improved. Dhawan insists on the importance of mobilizing domestic savings and enhancing FDI through government incentives. He underscores the potential for India to seize opportunities in the Western market, especially as companies look to diversify away from China.
