Salisbury Gluten-Free Handbook Assists Diners in Discovering Safe Meal Options

The Salisbury Gluten Free Guide was launched in June by Tony Barfoot, a local with coeliac disease. Designed for individuals with gluten intolerance, the guide serves as a free, independent resource listing 75 gluten-free venues in and around Salisbury.

Key Features of the Guide:

  • Comprehensive Listings: It includes city centre restaurants, cafés, pubs in nearby villages, and venues near the New Forest.
  • Detailed Information: Each listing highlights important kitchen practices, such as the use of dedicated fryers and separate food prep areas.
  • User-Friendly: The guide organizes venues into themed lists like gluten-free pubs and fish & chips, making it easy for users to find what they need.

Community Engagement:

Tony noted a positive response from local businesses. Some venues have even reached out proactively to explain their gluten-free practices. Interestingly, a few establishments requested removal from the guide to maintain honest communication with customers—one café cited not being able to guarantee gluten-free food, while a pub couldn’t keep its information up to date.

Community Focus:

Tony emphasizes that the guide is run by someone who genuinely needs it and is committed to maintaining its free status. It provides a practical resource for nearly 1 in 100 people in the UK who have coeliac disease, reflecting the community’s dedication to ensuring safe dining experiences for all.
