Free Bus Travel for Children in England
This August, children across England can enjoy free bus travel throughout the month, alleviating financial pressures during the summer holidays. This initiative ensures most under-16s won’t have to pay for local bus services, making access to popular sites like York Dungeon and Windsor Castle easier.
- Cost of Travel: Typically ranges from £1 to £2 for children aged 5 to 15, while under-fives already travel for free.
- Government Support: Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander emphasized that this initiative helps families during the cost-of-living crisis.
Other Measures to Ease Financial Burdens
The government also introduced the “Great British Summer Savings” scheme, which cuts VAT on children’s meals, theatre tickets, and family attractions. Attractions like Peppa Pig World and Alton Towers are participating, benefiting from this government support.
New £2 Cap on Bus Fares
Starting next year, the government will reintroduce a £2 cap on bus fares for all passengers. This cap aims to provide more financial breathing room for families while they enjoy the summer together.
With these initiatives, we strive to support families navigating the cost-of-living crisis, ensuring that everyone can access vital resources and enjoy leisure activities.
