The Council has announced an initiative to offer free bus travel for children during August, aimed at supporting families with the cost of living during school holidays. Children aged five to 15 can travel for free on council-run buses and Arriva services, while those under five already travel for free. This scheme also includes the On Demand service in areas like Ironbridge and Lightmoor, connecting to key local destinations.
No prior registration is needed; eligible children can simply board the buses and travel for free throughout the month. This initiative is part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s efforts to provide affordable public transport, complementing their recent extension of low fares on Arriva services.
Councillor Ollie Vickers expressed gratitude for the government funding, emphasizing the relief this will provide to families under financial strain during the summer holidays.
For more information on the free travel scheme, visit the council’s website or follow their Facebook page for updates. Additionally, the Citymapper app, tailored for Telford & Wrekin, is available for free to help with travel planning.
