The Trump administration’s approval of Saudi Arabia’s civilian nuclear program expansion raises significant concerns. This decision jeopardizes U.S. leverage in promoting Saudi-Israeli normalization and undermines decades of nonproliferation efforts in the Middle East.
While U.S.-Saudi security cooperation is essential for countering Iran, granting such a substantial concession without stringent oversight is reckless.
Moreover, why are we prioritizing nuclear development abroad when the U.S. urgently needs to enhance its own nuclear infrastructure? With ongoing political disputes over fossil fuels and the escalating costs of renewables, nuclear power represents a clean, reliable energy source essential for our energy needs.
It’s time for a comprehensive approach to energy, starting with modernizing our domestic nuclear capabilities.
