The Baltimore Ravens have made a significant commitment to combat gun violence in Baltimore by investing $1 million across six community organizations focused on prevention, crisis response, and long-term recovery. This announcement coincided with the Baltimore Together: A Violence Summit held at M&T Bank Stadium, emphasizing the team’s ongoing philanthropic efforts.
Sashi Brown, the president of the Ravens, highlighted the team’s responsibility to support organizations making meaningful differences in the community. The Mayor of Baltimore, Brandon Scott, expressed gratitude for the investment, which aims to build upon successful strategies that have significantly reduced violence in the area.
One of the funded initiatives includes the Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS), supported by Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Healing Through Storytelling, which seeks to help youth affected by violence through storytelling and advocacy. Other organizations, like MedStar Health, will enhance their Violence Responder program, while Everytown for Gun Safety will focus on training high school students in conflict resolution and prevention techniques.
Overall, this financial backing will foster collaborative efforts among various stakeholders to create safer environments and address the roots of gun violence in the community.
