A new community kitchen has opened in Wolverhampton’s Pendeford, aimed at helping residents eat well and learn cooking skills on a budget. The Dovecotes community kitchen, supported by the City of Wolverhampton Council, will host sessions with community chefs to teach residents how to prepare nutritious meals cost-effectively.
A shop is also planned for on-site purchases of goods. City Council leader Stephen Simkins emphasized the importance of access to quality food, especially during challenging economic times.
This initiative is part of the Pocket to Plate program, which educates residents about nutritional eating and is funded by the government’s crisis and resilience fund. Community chefs, including TikTok chef Mitch Lane, share weekly recipes online to inspire residents.
Simkins noted the significance of food in bringing people together and highlighted the kitchen’s potential impact on the community. Nikki Rolls, chief tenant management officer, expressed excitement about the facility, emphasizing its role in supporting families and fostering community connections.
