Weather Update: Gulf Disturbance Invest 91L

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A disturbance in the eastern Gulf, identified as Invest 91L by the National Hurricane Center, is currently being monitored. Latest reports indicate a 40% chance of development in the next 48 hours and a 50% chance over the next seven days. This activity is primarily driven by an upper-level low over Florida along with a weak surface trough, which are generating strong thunderstorms in the area. Residents can expect gusty winds, frequent lightning, and rough seas.

If the system strengthens to obtain maximum sustained winds of 39 mph, it will be designated as a tropical storm and receive the name Bertha. Currently, maximum wind speeds are estimated at around 23 mph.

Impacts

The primary concern is the potential for heavy rain and storms impacting the Gulf Coast from Florida to Louisiana in the coming days, which could disrupt travel and beach activities. Meanwhile, the Brazos Valley is expected to experience hot and mostly dry conditions as high pressure continues to influence the area, aiding in the dry spell following recent rains.
