At a local celebration, residents showed support by volunteering skills and contributing funds, highlighting a strong community spirit. Funding has been a challenge; the theater’s owner, David Corkill, has listed the property for $1.1 million, but negotiations for a $200,000 down payment are ongoing. The foundation, despite receiving a denied grant application for up to $1 million, remains hopeful and is assessing alternative funding paths, including local volunteer help for renovations.
David Klinger, a local film student, embarked on a documentary project capturing the theater’s story, emphasizing its importance to the community. He stresses the significance of local involvement in revitalizing the theater. The Fortuna Theater Foundation is actively seeking donations and planning further fundraising efforts, mapping out a hopeful route towards reopening this essential cultural venue for the town.
