What is Kosher Sushi? Shi-Ya Launches Next to Meat Point in Dallas

Shi-Ya: A Kosher Sushi Experience in Dallas

Overview

Shi-Ya Modern Asian Cuisine has made waves in Dallas as a sushi lounge that exclusively serves Kosher food, breaking traditional boundaries and elevating the sushi experience. Owned by the Alali family, who also run the successful Meat Point steakhouse, Shi-Ya opened on June 28, aiming to combine fine dining with Kosher culinary traditions.

Ambiance

Accessed through Meat Point with no exterior signage, Shi-Ya embraces a speakeasy vibe. The interior features sage green club chairs and elegant gold-rimmed tables, with a small marble-topped bar.

The Story Behind Shi-Ya

The owners, Yehuda and Lital Alali, both from Israel, were inspired by their experiences in the restaurant industry. With roots in fine dining and a passion for culinary creativity, they saw an opportunity for upscale Kosher dining in the Dallas area, which led to the opening of Shi-Ya.

Menu Highlights

The menu offers an impressive selection of dishes inspired by various Asian cuisines, including:

  • Sushi Options: Traditional favorites like salmon and yellowtail nigiri, spicy tuna maki, and creative rolls.
  • Entrees: Signature dishes like Whole Steamed White Fish, Japanese BBQ Denver Skewers, and 72-Hour Short Ribs.
  • Shareable Appetizers: Budget-friendly options such as bao buns and gyoza.

Unique Kosher Elements

Kosher sushi adheres to specific dietary laws, such as not using shellfish and ensuring that fish have scales. Despite these restrictions, the Alalis strive to create a rich and enjoyable dining experience, showcasing their culinary skills and creativity.

Wine and Spirits

Shi-Ya features an extensive all-Kosher wine list with over 4,000 bottles, along with a selection of Japanese vodka, whisky, and sake. This diverse drink menu complements their food offerings wonderfully.

Conclusion

Shi-Ya offers a delightful fusion of Asian culinary influences within a Kosher framework, aiming to attract diners who seek high-quality meals rather than just a limited dietary option. It’s a fresh take on Kosher dining that appeals to a broad audience, emphasizing creativity and quality.
