The Downtown Development Corporation in Rutland is planning to enhance the city’s downtown area with over $4 million gained from the sale of the Parker House, a facility providing Section Eight housing for seniors. After decades of ownership, the corporation accepted an irresistible offer from Steele Properties, a national real estate firm, resulting in the sale.
Board Chair Joe Kraus noted that the sale opens new opportunities for development. The corporation aims to invest the proceeds into significant downtown projects, in collaboration with the Rutland Redevelopment Authority and local economic development groups. Mayor Tom Donahue expressed optimism about increased investments in Rutland, suggesting this initiative could lead to transformative changes in the city, particularly with existing projects like the TIF district and the Center Street Revitalization effort.
