Australian family leaves suburban living behind to explore the globe in a classic Kombi.

The Poole family, consisting of Kirianna, Lachlan, and their three children—Riley, Alba, and Elsie—have embraced a unique lifestyle by living full-time in a 1962 Kombi van. Since 2018, after leaving their home in New South Wales for Lachlan’s job as a pilot in Tokyo, they have traveled to over 30 countries. Upon realizing the cost-effectiveness and adventure this lifestyle offers, they decided to make the Kombi their permanent home.

They often ship their van to various countries, experiencing a lifestyle devoid of traditional housing costs. While they face challenges like the limitations of small living spaces and vehicle maintenance, they appreciate the freedom and bonding opportunities this nomadic life provides. Their educational approach for the kids combines structured homeschooling with real-world experiences, making every destination a potential classroom.

Overall, they cherish the adventures and lessons learned, having created a home filled with memories rather than material possessions, and plan to continue their journey indefinitely.
