Tavlin, a popular kosher Mediterranean market that has been on the South Shore for over 30 years, is relocating to Greenvale. The market, known for its array of imported delicacies and homemade vegetarian dishes, has signed a lease to take over a former day spa in a shopping center alongside Centro Cucina.
Ittai Azoulay, a partner and trained chef, explained that the move is a response to customer demand from the North Shore. Tavlin has also been running a Friday market at the Sid Jacobson JCC in East Hills.
The market, founded in 1992 by Marc Azoulay and his wife Sarah, offers a broad selection of products, from nuts and dried fruits to vibrant salads and prepared dishes. Recently, Ittai expanded the menu by adding meat options like shawarma and kibbe, necessitating kosher supervision from Rabbi Josh Dorsch of the Merrick Jewish Center.
The new Greenvale location will mirror the Bellmore store’s offerings, with the addition of seating for about a dozen customers. The transformation from spa to food market is underway, and Ittai hopes to have the new location open by this fall.
