The company entered the Chinese market about a year and a half ago with its brands Renzo’s Vitamins for Kids and EZ Melts via Tmall. These brands, known for their fast-melting tablet format, have found stable sales but slower growth than expected, according to Juan Mata, executive marketing director of Solara Labs.
Mata emphasized the need for a local partner familiar with the Chinese market, particularly Tmall and Douyin, to help promote the brands. Renzo’s calcium and vitamin B6 have been particularly successful in China, with the latter attracting attention due to a lack of competition.
The iron supplements from both brands stand out for being gentle on the stomach, using carbonyl iron instead of more common iron salts which often cause side effects. The fast-melting tablets also avoid staining teeth, a common issue with liquid iron supplements, and are formulated with vitamin C for better iron absorption.
Mata noted that these tablets are appealing to parents due to the absence of sugar and gelatin, common in gummy vitamins, and contain more nutrients than gummies.
Solara Labs differentiates itself in a crowded VMS market through innovative technology and ongoing in-house research and development, led by founder Dr. Jose Rocca. Their folate supplements use L-methylfolate, a bioavailable form of vitamin B9, beneficial for individuals with certain gene mutations.
