On Thursday, Microsoft announced the launch of its Legal Agent, an innovative AI tool aimed at enhancing legal workflows within Word.

According to Microsoft, “While general-purpose AI tools can assist with document review, they aren’t specifically tailored to follow the structured processes that legal teams need for risk assessment and maintaining consistency.” This assertion was made in an April 30 blog post. The Legal Agent handles monotonous tasks such as generating redlines and reviewing counterparty changes, allowing legal professionals to concentrate on making high-stakes decisions.

This new tool is capable of comprehending and analyzing intricate legal documents, suggesting precise edits, and working seamlessly within documents that already have tracked changes. Additionally, it can review contracts and provide recommendations to ensure compliance with internal standards.

The Legal Agent also offers supporting citations for each suggestion, enabling users to review and approve changes with confidence.

This tool is currently available in Word on Windows desktop through Microsoft’s early access Frontier program.
