Recent updates to Google TV bring a range of exciting features powered by artificial intelligence. These advancements allow users to create images and videos, enrich their photo experiences, and soon enjoy dedicated short-form video content seamlessly integrated into the TV home screen.
Google TV is unveiling a series of updates designed to enhance the viewing experience on larger screens, making it more personalized and interactive. These updates incorporate artificial intelligence tools that allow users to generate creative images and videos, along with a forthcoming dedicated space for short-form video content conveniently located on the TV home screen.
As explained by Michael DelGaudio, UX Manager & Design Lead, and Product Manager Gaurav Chaula, these updates aim to transform the television into a shared creative hub for families and friends. The goal is to foster connection and joy among users through playful content generation, nostalgic recollections, and easy access to short videos right on the big screen.
A standout feature of this update is the AI-driven image generation tool known as Nano Banana. This innovative feature enables users to transform their photos into whimsical creations using voice commands. Users can say things like “Make my dad wear a ridiculous outfit” to creatively alter images for humorous effects. This feature can be accessed via the Gemini 1 tab under the “Create” option, turning the TV into a collaborative creative canvas.
Additionally, Google TV is introducing Veo, an AI-powered video generation tool that allows users to craft custom videos based on text prompts or animate existing images. For instance, users might request a scenario like “Make my grandfather moonwalk in space,” which the system will then render into short videos on demand. These innovative AI capabilities will initially be available on Gemini-enabled TCL Google TVs in the United States.
Beyond content creation, Google TV is also enhancing its integration with Google Photos. Users can now utilize voice commands through Gemini to search their photo libraries, making it easier to locate specific memories such as family vacations or celebrations. The platform will provide browsable results that can either be viewed in full-screen or transformed into engaging slideshows.
To further enhance personalization, users will have the ability to remix their photos into various artistic styles, including watercolor and oil painting effects, thanks to a feature called Google Photos Remix. Additionally, dynamic slideshow features will be expanded, allowing any Google Photos album to be transformed into visually appealing displays directly on the television.
Lastly, Google TV is set to launch a new section called “Short videos for you” on its home screen. This feature will curate personalized short-form video content starting with YouTube Shorts. The rollout is anticipated to begin in the United States during the summer, providing users with straightforward access to engaging video content right from their home screens.
