Metabolic syndrome is a combination of health conditions that elevate the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. To diagnose this syndrome, at least three out of five risk factors must be present: high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar levels, increased waist circumference, low HDL (good) cholesterol, and high triglycerides. Recent research has focused on how sedentary behavior influences the likelihood of developing metabolic syndrome.
