Embracing the Joys of a Snow Day
As the East Coast prepares for what is expected to be a significant blizzard, I find myself thrilled about the prospect of our first true snow day of the year.
After leaving work early due to the worsening weather, it dawned on me that I likely wouldn’t accomplish much the following day. Isn’t it funny how things go? We’ve had minimal snow this winter, and now suddenly there’s a state of emergency in effect. While many rushed to grocery stores to stock up on bread and milk, my only desire was to return home and cozy up with a captivating book.
One of my favorite activities for what I like to call a “snow day for adults” is to dive into a good book. My days are often so busy that by the end, I’m too tired to read. This unexpected day off is the perfect opportunity to catch up on my reading. Although I’m a bit late to the party, I just finished “Gone Girl” (refusing to watch the movie until I read the book) and I’m still blown away by how gripping it was! I just started “Dark Places,” another work by the same author, and I’m eager to see if it lives up to “Gone Girl” (though that’s a tall order). Additionally, I have a stack of untouched magazines from as far back as September waiting for my attention. But who’s counting?

You know how fond I am of candles; I light one every night. On these cozy, stay-at-home days, I always opt for one of my favorite candles. I even have a collection of “special occasion” candles that I reserve for these moments. Is that strange? Probably!
If your reading list is empty, Netflix can surely provide some entertainment. I’ve recently become addicted to “Sons of Anarchy.” Given the chance, I’d binge-watch all the seasons available, though I suspect my husband wouldn’t be too pleased with that. If you’re as passionate about movies as I am, here’s a list of the best movies currently streaming on Netflix.
Snow days are also an excellent excuse to indulge in a little self-care. Whether it’s a mani/pedi, a facial, or a hair mask, we all deserve to pamper ourselves occasionally. I particularly enjoy treating myself to an at-home manicure, especially when the dry weather has taken a toll on my hands and cuticles. After all that, a long, hot bubble bath is the perfect way to wrap up the day.
I wish all my fellow East Coasters a warm and cozy evening. Stay safe, everyone, and remember to avoid traveling if it’s not necessary!
