WITH THE L Summer Olympics on the horizon, athletes are already gearing up for the competition. Among those aiming for a spot on the team is Clayton Young, a prominent long-distance runner. At 32, Young ha made his Olympic debut in 2024, where he impressively placed 9th in the Men’s Marathon with a remarkable time of 2:08:44.

“My primary focus right now is to prepare thoroughly for the LA 2028 Olympic Games,” Young shares with MH. “It’s all about building confidence and gearing up for major marathons globally, where I can compete against top athletes.”

Young demonstrated significant improvement since his Olympic debut, even beating his previous performance by an entire minute at the recent Boston Marathon, finishing with a time of 2:07:04. He is set to return to Boston this year, now partnered with Brooks to enhance his training.

According to Young, long runs form the backbone of marathon training, but he also emphasizes the importance of strength training. “Incorporating strength exercises has made me faster and more efficient, allowing me to sustain a weekly mileage of over 130 miles without injury,” he notes.
