Iranian Ballistic Missile Attack on Central Israel Results in Casualties

In a tragic incident, one individual lost their life and several others sustained injuries due to an Iranian ballistic missile strike on central Israel late Friday. This attack marked the sixth missile launched by Iran on that day, highlighting escalating tensions in the region.

The missile was equipped with a cluster bomb warhead, dispersing bomblets across a broad area.

A single bomblet impact resulted in the death of a man in his 60s, who was not in a bomb shelter at the time. Additionally, another submunition struck a residential building, injuring two men in their 50s. This information has been confirmed by police and Magen David Adom (MDA).

The Fire and Rescue Service reported managing six different impact sites where submunitions landed. Furthermore, medics indicated that two individuals were lightly injured in the Kuseife area of southern Israel due to falling debris following the interception of an Iranian ballistic missile earlier that evening.

MDA provided medical assistance to a 37-year-old man and a woman in her 20s who suffered shrapnel injuries. Both victims were transported to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba for treatment.

Later, Iran launched another ballistic missile attack targeting southern Israel early Saturday, which set off sirens in Beersheba and its neighboring towns. Hours later, they struck the northern and central parts of the country with two additional missile volleys. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the assaults on Saturday.

This devastating attack occurred amidst ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Iran, including a strike in Tehran against what was described as “targets of the Iranian terror regime.” As a result, the total number of Israeli civilians and foreign nationals killed in Israel from Iranian ballistic missiles has reached 16 during the ongoing conflict with Iran, in addition to four Palestinians in the West Bank.

Since the war erupted on February 28, Iran has launched over 450 ballistic missiles at Israel. The military reports a 92 percent interception rate for missiles targeting populated areas and key infrastructure. So far, nine missiles carrying conventional warheads struck populated regions in Israel, causing significant damage in at least six incidents. Moreover, more than 30 missiles with cluster bomb warheads have hit populated areas, resulting in over 150 distinct impact locations.
