Google Simplifies Importing AI Memory into Gemini

Following Anthropic’s recent enhancement of its memory importing tool for Claude, Google Gemini is introducing new features on desktop: the “Import Memory” and “Import Chat History” options. These tools are designed to facilitate the seamless transfer of a user’s existing AI knowledge into Gemini, making it easier for users to maintain continuity in their interactions.

To utilize the “Import Memory” feature, users need to copy a suggested prompt from Gemini and input it into their previous AI. After that, they can transfer the output from their former AI into Gemini, thereby aligning Gemini with their preferences and past interactions.

The “Import Chat History” tool allows users to request an export of all chats from their prior AI, which can then be uploaded to Gemini as a .zip file, accommodating up to 5GB of data. This enables users to continue their conversations right where they left off. Additionally, users have the flexibility to delete specific imported chat histories through the Chat menu or remove entire .zip file imports from the settings section.

In a related change, Google has rebranded the “past chats” feature in Gemini to “memory.” The “Import Memory” and “Import Chat History” options are being made available to both free and paid consumer accounts on desktop, though these features are not yet accessible to business, enterprise, or under-18 account holders.

These new developments signify a significant step toward making AI interactions more personalized and user-friendly, allowing users to have a more cohesive experience as they transition to Google Gemini.
