Phillip Guison is on the brink of advancing to the semifinals of Colossal’s Mr. Health and Fitness competition, but first, he needs your votes to secure his spot in the next round.

“The competition has several phases,” Guison explained. “I successfully navigated the initial group phase, which required weekly online voting to keep me in the race. I’m currently in the top one percent of competitors in the quarterfinals, which ends today. To move forward, I need to secure first place.”

This competition is more than just a test of strength; it supports a crucial cause. Guison elaborated, “Colossal’s Mr. Health and Fitness competition is a nationwide initiative that raises funds and awareness for the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, which aids children fighting cancer.”

As of now, Guison ranks fourth in the quarterfinals but is optimistic about garnering enough votes to advance. “Residents of Christian County can support me by voting daily online,” he said. “You can find the link on my Facebook page, Phillip Guison. Voting is free once a day, and you can also purchase additional votes, with proceeds benefiting childhood cancer care.”

Guison’s participation in this competition holds personal significance; he is a cancer survivor himself. “In early 2024, I was diagnosed with stage 4a Nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The diagnosis took almost eight months and involved several doctors. Because I was already at stage four with this rare cancer, I underwent four months of weekly chemotherapy and nearly two months of daily radiation.”

While Guison acknowledges the role of conventional medicine in his recovery, he credits lifestyle changes for his ultimate success in battling the disease. “Although some treatments showed improvement, imaging indicated little change in my condition. A significant shift in my nutrition and overall lifestyle began to show positive results.”

It was this transformation that led Guison to take up bodybuilding. “As I noticed changes in my body and energy levels, I set a goal to compete. I entered my first bodybuilding competition in November 2025, lost over 70 lbs, and placed fourth in my division. I have been in remission for about a year now,” he shared.

Guison is motivated to participate in the Mr. Health and Fitness competition not just for personal achievement, but to inspire others. “Winning would allow me to share my journey with a broader audience, potentially published in Muscle & Fitness magazine. I want to show others facing cancer that a fulfilling life is possible post-treatment. This competition is also a testament to how a community can come together to support meaningful change.”

He expressed gratitude for the tremendous support he has received throughout his journey. “Many friends, family members, and community members have been voting daily and sharing my story. During my treatment and recovery, I received an outpouring of help from the community, including prepared meals for my family during challenging times. This overwhelming support has played a crucial role in my progress, underscoring the impact we can make for one another.”
