Mini Mathur, at 50, recently opened up about the essential supplements she incorporates into her diet and wellness routine. On her podcast with Shark Tank India judge Vineeta Singh, she stated, “I take magnesium glycinate at night, which is excellent for calming the nervous system. In the morning, I include Omega-3, and isabgol for its fiber content. These are non-negotiable for me.”

Proactively discussing menopause, Mathur also referenced her intake of calcium, vitamin C, and creatine. She emphasized the importance of variety in supplementation, saying, “It’s crucial to keep changing them. Use a supplement for three months, then shift as needed. Vitamin D, in particular, is often deficient, yet it’s fundamental to how we feel.”

Taking a cue from Mathur’s insights, we can explore how these supplements assist women in managing menopause.

Consultant dietitian Garima Goyal explained that menopause is characterized by gradual hormonal changes, impacting metabolism, bone health, mood stability, and cardiovascular risks. She noted, “Because of these transitions, certain nutrients like vitamin D, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, and gut-supportive probiotics are often explored to help maintain metabolic and neurological balance during this period.”

A key takeaway from Mini Mathur’s discussion is that supplements are not universally applicable.

“While supplements can address specific deficiencies or physiological needs, they should ideally be incorporated after assessing dietary habits, lifestyle, and relevant blood markers. Each woman’s experience of hormonal change is unique, and the aim of supplementation should be to enhance a nutrient-rich diet, regular physical activity, and restorative sleep rather than to substitute them,” Goyal advised.

This perspective reflects a significant shift in the conversation around midlife health. Rather than perceiving aging as a battle, there is an increasing focus on supporting the body through informed choices and preventive measures. Goyal added, “When supplements are utilized responsibly and under professional supervision, they can significantly aid women in maintaining vitality, bone health, metabolic well-being, and emotional stability during their perimenopausal years.”
