How often do you find yourself reaching for your phone throughout the day?

The answer is likely… a lot. Whether it’s checking emails, scrolling through Twitter, or responding to text messages, our phones have become essential tools in our daily lives. I recall my sociology professor once asking us to list the functions of our phones. After we rattled off texting, browsing the internet, and sharing photos, he said, “What about making phone calls?” It was a moment of revelation—phones today do so much more than just call! Personally, I have a wide range of apps on my device, from Harry Potter trivia to Pocket Justice, which showcases over 600 constitutional law cases. Here, I’ll share some of my favorite productivity apps that can transform your daily routine.

IFTT

IF by IFTT (If This Then That) is not only excellent for enhancing productivity but also incredibly useful for bloggers. This app enables you to create “recipes” that link various applications like Dropbox, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. For example, when you post on Instagram, it usually shares a link on Twitter without the image. However, IFTT allows you to set up a “recipe” so that the actual image is shared to your Twitter feed as well. Additionally, it can automatically back up photos to your Dropbox or Google Drive, post your Facebook status to Twitter, save liked tweets to Pocket, and even send thank-you emails to new followers. By automating these tasks, you can save a considerable amount of time.

FOREST

If distractions plague your focus and cause you to reach for your phone unnecessarily, this app may be your solution. Forest allows you to set a timer, say 30 minutes, during which you plant a virtual tree and must avoid using your phone. If you give in, your tree dies. The aim is to cultivate a forest of trees over time, providing a gratifying sense of achievement. Watching your virtual tree wither if you stray will inevitably make you reconsider your impulses during your productive time.

MINDLY

For those who often feel overwhelmed by numerous thoughts, Mindly operates like a real-life pensieve (if that reference resonates with you, let’s chat over tea!). This app allows you to organize your thoughts, capture ideas, and connect them in one platform. I appreciate this app as it helps me consolidate my multiple ideas into one coherent space. You can write, connect your ideas, and even add images and web links, making it indispensable for writers and those looking to boost creativity.

ANY.DO

For list lovers like myself, ANY.DO is a dream come true. This app offers cross-platform synchronization, date and time reminders, and task organization into categories. You can easily cross off tasks as you complete them. Perhaps the most unique feature is the app’s ability to nudge you to review your upcoming tasks, something ordinary calendars don’t do. How often have you remembered your to-do list only at the end of the day? ANY.DO helps to bridge that gap.

BRAIN FOCUS PRODUCTIVITY TIMER

This app utilizes the Pomodoro Technique, which advocates breaking work into short, timed intervals interspersed with brief breaks. This method not only aids in managing large tasks but also helps improve overall focus and concentration. The app assists you in tracking both your work and break sessions efficiently.
