Samsung Explores Vibe Coding for Smartphones with AI-Powered App Development

Smartphones have become essential tools in our daily lives, enabling us to connect with loved ones and enjoy music and videos. However, the devices themselves have not undergone significant changes in recent years. Recently, advancements in artificial intelligence are beginning to transform how we utilize our smartphones and the creation of apps.

Samsung has teased a novel concept known as “vibe coding.” Although still in its infancy, this idea could empower users to modify existing applications or develop small personalized features that cater to their specific needs. In an interview with TechRadar, the company mentioned, “Something we’re looking into.” Won-Joon Choi, the head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) division, elaborated, “At this moment, we are confined to predefined tools, but with vibe coding, users could tailor their preferred apps or create something tailored specifically for them.”

While Samsung has yet to implement this feature within its One UI interface, the concept suggests that the company is exploring options for enhancing user control over their smartphone experience. Over the years, Samsung has meticulously refined its Android-based software, seamlessly integrating useful features without overwhelming users. The introduction of vibe coding could further this initiative by enabling users to customize applications to their preferences.

On another front, AI-driven app development is already in progress. Startups like Nothing launched Playground in September 2025, a platform that empowers users to create widgets or customize apps through straightforward text prompts. Users can design functionalities such as flight trackers, meeting summaries, or even virtual pets. Additionally, more advanced users have the option to tweak the source code for finer control. However, the development of full-scale applications on Playground is still a work in progress, indicating that the technology is evolving.

Other companies are also working to make AI-assisted coding tools readily available. OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Agent make it easier for developers—and even those without technical expertise—to build apps rapidly. A report from 9To5Mac highlighted how Codex developed a functioning Mac app in just 15 minutes to meet a specific productivity requirement that existing apps could not address. While most casual users remain unaware of these tools, they hint at a future where individuals can soon personalize their apps without the need for complex coding skills.

These innovations point towards a future in which smartphones may transcend the limitations of pre-installed applications. Users could begin designing and modifying apps to meet their unique needs, granting them more autonomy over their devices. For Samsung and other manufacturers, the challenge will be to ensure these tools remain user-friendly while maintaining a seamless experience. If executed well, vibe coding could empower users to tailor their devices more closely to their preferences.
