Guardiola on Haaland’s Injury Status and Man City’s Latest Injury Concern

Pep Guardiola has provided an update on the status of Erling Haaland following the Manchester City striker’s absence from his first Premier League match of the season.

Haaland, the league’s leading goalscorer, was not part of the squad that secured a 1-0 victory against Leeds United on Saturday. His omission was attributed to a knock he sustained during training.

When asked if the injury involved Haaland’s knee, Guardiola clarified, “No. It’s not his knee.” However, when pressed for details about the specific injury, the coach merely raised his eyebrows, smiled, and opted not to elaborate.

Manchester City’s next match is on Wednesday against Nottingham Forest, a crucial fixture as they chase Arsenal in the Premier League title race. Regarding Haaland’s potential return for this game, Guardiola mentioned, “I don’t have an answer right now,” adding that they would have four days to prepare.

He further noted, “So, he was not ready for today, but we have four days before Nottingham Forest.” Guardiola expressed frustration over the team’s cramped schedule, highlighting that they would then have a tight turnaround for an FA Cup match in Newcastle. “Thank you so much for that kick-off time to go better to Madrid with less recovery. Thank you,” he added sarcastically.

In addition to Haaland’s situation, Guardiola confirmed another injury concern involving Nico O’Reilly, who had to be substituted during the game against Leeds. “Yeah, for the ankle,” he said, explaining O’Reilly’s withdrawal. “He had a knock on the ankle and played on but was eventually taken off.”
