Shipping Gluten-Free Food from the UK is Cheaper than Buying in Guernsey

Understanding Coeliac Disease and Nutritional Guidance

Myfanwy Datta, the clinical lead dietitian for The States of Guernsey, emphasized the importance of dietary management for patients diagnosed with coeliac disease. She noted that dietitians play a crucial role in helping individuals navigate their condition while ensuring they obtain the necessary nutrients.

Datta recommended that islanders living with coeliac disease schedule an annual check-up with their GP to monitor their blood levels.

In addition, Guernsey-based nutritional therapist Carol Champion advised individuals with coeliac disease to focus on consuming more “naturally gluten-free” foods, such as potatoes, rice, oats, and sweet potatoes. She cautioned against relying too heavily on ultra-processed foods.

“These products often contain added chemicals, flavorings, stabilizers, and binding agents,” she explained. “They frequently lack essential nutrients and can negatively impact one’s health.”

Conclusion

Proper management and nutritional choices are vital for those with coeliac disease. Regular check-ups and a diet rich in natural ingredients can significantly enhance overall well-being.
