Mocha Point Coffee is making its way to Kansas City, expanding from its original location near St. Louis. Owner Omar Abdelmoity is excited to introduce a serene, late-night coffeehouse environment that fosters connections among friends and family over specialty brews.
Abdelmoity’s journey began in Overland Park, where he dreamed of a welcoming space for late-night coffee gatherings. While attending Washington University in St. Louis, he met the founder of Mocha Point Coffee and recognized the need for a similar venue in Kansas.
“After long days of studying and exams, my friends and I would head to Mocha Point around 8 or 9 p.m.,” said Abdelmoity. “We’d indulge in pots of coffee, baklava cheesecake, and various desserts. There’s nothing like that in Kansas City.”
Mocha Point will bring a unique Yemeni-style twist to its menu, incorporating coffee beans sourced from Yemen that offer distinct fruity and spicy flavors. The new establishment will be situated at 135th Street and Antioch Road, conveniently located near Overland Park’s B&B Theatres.

In addition to coffee, Mocha Point plans to offer desserts not commonly found in traditional coffee shops, including baklava cheesecake and kunafa cheesecake.
Abdelmoity emphasizes that the charm of Mocha Point lies in its welcoming ambience and extended hours. Once operational, the café is scheduled to be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, with hours extending to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. On special occasions, it will remain open until 1 a.m.
“It’s important to have a late-night space where people can gather to enjoy each other’s company, unwind, and savor delightful treats in a safe, family-friendly environment,” Abdelmoity shared.
By summer, Overland Park will see significant interest in Yemeni coffee, as a second establishment, R Qahwah Coffee, is set to open later this spring at the former location of Mud Pie Bakery off 95th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
Abdelmoity also noted that Mocha Point intends to operate during Ramadan, a time when many coffee shops may close around sunset when Muslims break their fast.
Mocha Point will hold a soft opening from February 17-19, from 4 to 10 p.m.
