Waco Woman Launches Adaptive Fitness Program for Special Needs Community

Empowering Lives Through Adaptive Fitness: The Story of Special Strong Greater Waco

In the world of fitness, inclusivity is key. Special Strong Greater Waco, an adaptive fitness program founded by Liz Trujillo, stands as a beacon of empowerment for individuals with special needs. By tailoring fitness experiences to individual abilities, Trujillo is not just advocating for a healthier lifestyle; she is creating a supportive community where everyone feels valued and motivated.

WACO, Texas — Liz Trujillo has transformed her lifelong passion for advocacy into impactful action with the launch of Special Strong Greater Waco. This unique program is designed to empower individuals with special needs, making fitness accessible and enjoyable for all.

As the owner of this local franchise, Trujillo dedicates herself to working one-on-one with clients, crafting personalized fitness plans tailored to their specific abilities and goals. For her, the program represents more than just physical exercise; it embodies advocacy in motion.

“I wake up every day and say, ‘OK, I’m going to go out and make someone feel special,’” Trujillo shares, highlighting her daily commitment to uplifting others.

Trujillo’s journey into advocacy began early in life. After her parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico, she frequently stepped in to help them overcome language barriers and workplace challenges.

“I was also advocating for them with their language barriers or work issues they faced,” she recalls, demonstrating her lifelong dedication to support and empowerment.

The decision to establish roots in Waco and launch the Special Strong program came after a transformative visit to Bitty & Beau’s Coffee, a local café staffed by individuals with disabilities. This experience inspired Trujillo to pursue her true calling: helping others through fitness.

“OK, Liz, it’s time. Let’s get yourself your calling, and this is my calling,” she affirmed, embracing the opportunity to make a difference.

Among her clients is Candice Stevenson, 43, who has faced significant health challenges since falling into a coma 24 years ago after giving birth. Her mother, Brenda Stevenson, expressed gratitude for Trujillo’s support, saying, “Liz came in when we needed her the most…We’ve finally found the perfect fit.”

Creating a sense of belonging for her clients is fundamental to Trujillo’s mission. She believes in the importance of community, saying, “Having them have a sense of belonging to the community… that means the world to me.”

Special Strong Greater Waco operates out of several gyms across Central Texas, including The Lab Fitness and Wellness Services, providing tailored programs that accommodate various needs.

Conclusion

Liz Trujillo’s work at Special Strong Greater Waco illustrates the power of adaptive fitness to transform lives. By fostering an inclusive environment where individuals with special needs can thrive, Trujillo is not only making fitness accessible; she is building a community that celebrates diversity and empowerment. For anyone looking to embrace a healthier lifestyle or find support, programs like Special Strong can serve as invaluable resources, creating spaces where everyone truly belongs.
