Union Minister Jitin Prasada addressed important concerns about the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing the potential dangers posed by misinformation generated through these technologies. During his remarks at the AI Impact Summit, he highlighted that while AI can greatly improve educational experiences for both students and teachers, it should not be seen as a shortcut that diminishes critical thinking and curiosity.
He stressed the irreplaceable role of teachers in education and cautioned about the risks associated with AI. “Without a focus on digital literacy, people are vulnerable to cyber threats. Cybersecurity is a major concern, especially with the rise of AI-generated deepfakes and misinformation. In India, where democracy thrives with frequent elections at the national, state, and municipal levels, there is a particular risk. Misinformation created by AI could undermine democratic processes,” he warned.
“Such misinformation has the potential to mislead individuals and distort their decision-making, especially during elections. If voters base their choices on false information, the consequences could be detrimental. This is an ongoing challenge for us and the Government,” he concluded, reinforcing the need for vigilance.
