Experience Starship’s inaugural orbital flight through these amazing SpaceX videos.

Starship’s Historic Orbital Flight

On September 28, SpaceX’s Starship achieved a significant milestone by completing its first-ever orbital flight. This marked the 14th launch of the megarocket, which successfully deployed 26 Starlink satellites, the initial components of an intended broadband constellation of up to 100,000 satellites.

SpaceX released stunning video footage of the satellite deployment, showcasing the Starlink satellites emerging from the Starship’s upper stage as if from a “Pez dispenser.” The company had previously shared still images captured by cameras on the satellites.

According to Starlink representatives, consistent communication is crucial for safe autonomous operations. They highlighted the importance of early contact for maneuvering, object tracking, and potential safety measures during the satellite deployment.

In addition to the satellite deployment, SpaceX shared videos demonstrating another essential Flight 14 milestone: the stage separation of the 171-foot-tall Ship spacecraft from its Super Heavy booster. The footage captured both perspectives, showing the booster descending back to Earth and the Ship ascending into orbit, powered by its six Raptor engines.

After a swift descent, Super Heavy splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico approximately seven minutes post-launch, while the Ship orbited Earth for three additional hours before ultimately crashing into the northern Pacific Ocean.

Despite the successful flight, Starship’s development is ongoing. Key upcoming tests include demonstrating in-space refueling and implementing necessary life-support systems for crewed missions.
