Chico, California, is set to open two new entertainment zones this Friday, allowing individuals aged 21 and older to carry alcoholic beverages in specified public spaces, including streets and sidewalks. These zones will be located in downtown Chico and Meriam Park.
Although the ordinance is effective this week, the zones are not anticipated to launch officially until later this fall. Many local businesses are currently deciding if they will take part in the initiative, which the Chico Chamber of Commerce is actively supporting through meetings focused on understanding regulations, licensing requirements, and necessary materials for participation.
The entertainment zones will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the aim of attracting more visitors to the area and bolstering local commerce. Chamber representatives emphasize the importance of ensuring participating businesses feel prepared and comfortable with the rollout.
