Ceremony Marks Start of Construction for $700 Million AWSOM Whole Health Campus

Alice Walton recently broke ground on the $700 million Alice L. Walton School of Medicine Whole Health Campus in Bentonville, Northwest Arkansas. This project aims to enhance specialty healthcare in the region. Walton emphasized the significance of the facility, stating it would offer world-class specialty care focused on the whole person rather than just specific diseases.

The campus will feature 1.1 million square feet of facilities, including a 250-bed hospital, a cancer center, and various health services for cardiac, orthopedic, and neurological care. The initiative, supported by significant pledges from Walton and Mercy Health, aims to enhance healthcare access in rural communities.

John Tyson, chairman of Tyson Foods, also announced a $50 million donation to the project, highlighting the community-focused vision behind the facility. The campus aims to create a model for healthcare that connects urban and rural areas, making high-quality specialty care more accessible to all.

Construction of the first building, the Center for Advanced Specialty Care in partnership with Cleveland Clinic, has begun and is expected to open in 2029. This facility will specifically enhance cardiac care and other specialties while expanding virtual care options.

Leaders in the healthcare sector expressed optimism that this initiative will redefine access to quality healthcare in the region, benefiting both Northwest Arkansas and surrounding communities.
