We Energies reaches agreement to supply nuclear energy to Oracle data center.

Oracle is partnering with We Energies to subscribe to 10% to 20% of electricity from Wisconsin’s Point Beach Nuclear Plant for its data center in Ozaukee County. This deal, pending approval from the Public Service Commission, may save We Energies’ customers around $300 million in fuel costs over five years. Although the Point Beach plant is the state’s largest generator, its electricity is costly compared to alternatives. We Energies recently extended its agreement to buy 86% of the plant’s output for another 20 years, despite the plant being sold to NextEra Energy in 2007.

Additionally, We Energies is seeking approval for a new natural gas power plant at the Fox Energy Center site, which would significantly increase electricity production.
