Gillian Anderson Clarifies Her Remarks on ‘Distracting’ Fans

Gillian Anderson has addressed concerns after advising fans about front-row seating during her West End performances of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), she clarified that her remarks were aimed at friends from over 20 years and requested that fans refrain from making negative comments about them.

After a recent show, Anderson was overheard telling attendees that front-row seating could be distracting in an intimate venue, prompting her follow-up post. She explained that while she is excited about the production, it’s important for some audience members to understand the visibility from the stage.

Anderson described joining the production as a “bucket list” opportunity and praised Crudup as a “phenomenal” co-star. Both actors emphasized their strong work ethic and commitment to delivering the best performance under the direction of Marianne Elliott.
