Schools commissioner steps down following FBI investigation of nonprofit organization.

Baltimore Schools Commissioner Resigns Amid FBI Raid

BALTIMORE — A commissioner on the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners, Majahid Muhammad, has abruptly resigned as the FBI conducted a raid on his nonprofit organization.

Background on Resignation

Mayor Brandon Scott confirmed on Wednesday that he accepted Muhammad’s resignation but did not disclose the reasons behind it. Scott stated, “We will move forward with the process of appointments and re-appointments.”

FBI Raid Details

The FBI confirmed a court-authorized search occurred in the 7500 block of Liberty Road in Northwest Baltimore. Eyewitnesses reported seeing law enforcement officers, some apparently armed with automatic weapons, surrounding the area around 8:30 a.m. Witness accounts describe a meticulously coordinated operation, raising questions about the nature of the raid.

Nonprofit Activities

Muhammad’s nonprofit organization has been involved in various community services, including food giveaways, educational programs, job training, and mental health support. A recent tax return revealed that his nonprofit received approximately $2 million in contributions and grants but incurred higher expenses.

Despite the recent events, some community members reflected positively on Muhammad’s efforts and involvement in local youth programs.

As of now, the purpose of the raid and any specific allegations related to Muhammad’s resignation remain undisclosed.
