Starfish Space is set to launch its first Otter satellite servicing vehicle next month as part of SpaceX’s Transporter-18 rideshare mission. Designed for life extension and end-of-life disposal, the Otter vehicles feature a flexible architecture capable of operating in various orbital regimes, supporting spacecraft not initially intended for servicing.
The inaugural Otter will undertake NASA’s Small Spacecraft Propulsion and Inspection Capability (SSPICY) mission. After launch, Starfish plans to commission the spacecraft and begin offering commercial services in low Earth orbit.
Austin Link, co-founder of Starfish, expressed excitement, stating, “This is the moment Otter becomes real… It’s going to space. That’s a huge moment for Starfish and for everyone who has worked to get us here.”
