The Economic and Community Development (ECD) office, in partnership with The Restaurant Week Company, is excited to announce “Newtown Restaurant and Business Appreciation Week,” scheduled for October 16-25.
ECD Director John Voket aims to build on the success of past Restaurant Week activities by highlighting not only local eateries but also other businesses in town through the newly launched EDC website, newtown.org, which will feature hundreds of businesses for both visitors and residents.
Michael Ferreira, founder of itsrestaurantweek.com, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Newtown to celebrate the occasion.
“We will kick off with the inaugural ‘Sip & Savor’ event, where local eateries will congregate at the beautiful Newtown Community Center,” Ferreira stated.
The “Sip & Savor” event is set for October 15 from 6-9 pm. Tickets are priced at $50, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Real Food CT. Participating restaurants will compete for titles like Best Appetizer and Best Cocktail/Mocktail.
Ferreira highlighted that this year’s expansion beyond restaurants marks a first for him: “Restaurant weeks play a larger role in stimulating the local economy. Increased restaurant traffic leads to higher sales for both eateries and nearby shops and service providers. It’s a win-win for both restaurants and the business community at large.”
