Driver dies in collision with U-Haul facility in Kensington, igniting a massive fire, according to police.

A tragic incident occurred in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood where a car crashed into a U-Haul building, resulting in a large fire. The accident happened early Thursday morning around 5:15 a.m. The vehicle, a dark-colored 2014 Dodge Journey, was reportedly traveling at a high speed when it collided with the building, triggering a fire after striking a gas meter and causing a natural gas leak.

Emergency services arrived to find the car lodged in the building’s side and a fire on the first floor. Unfortunately, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:40 a.m., with details about their age and gender still unknown. There were no employees in the building at the time.

Fire crews managed to bring the fire under control by approximately 5:45 a.m., and nearby roads were later reopened. The U-Haul facility will remain closed for the day as inspections are conducted. U-Haul management expressed concern, noting that this was not the first time a vehicle has struck the building and urged city officials to consider measures to slow traffic on Lehigh Avenue. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
