Resonant Composer Urges Studios to Prioritize Soundtrack Over ‘AI Music’ to Honor IP and Gaming Community—’Put the Fans First’

In a recent interview, composer Petri Alanko, known for his work on Control Resonant and Alan Wake 2, emphasized the importance of valuing soundtracks in the gaming industry. He believes that studios should prioritize music and avoid the use of AI-generated compositions. Alanko pointed out that he was involved in Control Resonant‘s development early, which he credits for creating a more cohesive and emotionally resonant soundtrack.

He expressed concern about composers being brought in late in the development process, which can undermine the quality of the music. Alanko urged studios to treat music as a vital aspect of their intellectual property and creative storytelling, advocating for the need to “give a lot of love and time” to the music. Reflecting on his collaboration with Remedy Entertainment since 2004, he mentioned that a deep understanding of their narratives allows for a more efficient and effective creation process.

Alanko concluded by encouraging developers to embrace a thoughtful approach to music that resonates with gamers, stressing the need for proper work-life balance while still committing deeply to one’s craft.
