Discover the reason over 700 cyclists are making their way along A1A from Ponte Vedra to Daytona Beach.

On Saturday, over 700 cyclists participated in Bike MS: Cycle to the Shore, riding along A1A toward Daytona. This two-day event aims to raise awareness and funds for individuals affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). Participants chose routes ranging from 36 to 100 miles, highlighting the ongoing challenge of this neurodegenerative condition, which affects over 1 million people in the U.S.

Robin Nunley, executive director of the Florida National MS Society, shared that the event is expected to raise nearly $1 million for the society. Among the cyclists was Selena Buongiorno, who has MS and took on the 100-mile route, stating, “Multiple sclerosis currently has no cure.” She emphasized the importance of funding research for a cure and raising awareness about the often invisible struggles of the illness.

Buongiorno described her determination to continue despite the challenges, saying, “I’m extremely stubborn,” pushing through pain to train for the event. The two-day ride will conclude tomorrow as cyclists cross the finish line.
