Great Bend Economic Development’s 2026 IGNITE Winner Announcement
Editor’s Note: Great Bend Economic Development will announce its 2026 IGNITE winner on October 8 at the historic Crest Theater. This year’s finalists include Great Bend Play Place, Sugar Co., The Book Cellar, and The Zarah Coffee Shop, with Little Window Restaurant Group having withdrawn from the competition.
Great Bend Play Place: A Community Vision
Billy and Kassandra Eldridge identified a need for a family-oriented space in Great Bend—one where children can play safely and families can make lasting memories. With the support of the IGNITE program, they aim to create an indoor family entertainment destination featuring large play structures, arcade games, and party rooms.
Kassandra emphasized their goal: “We want to bring something new to our community while supporting active play, childhood development, and quality family time, all under one roof.” They believe that Barton County requires year-round activities where kids can enjoy themselves, regardless of the weather.
The Eldridges are passionate about their vision, stating, “We are creating an all-in-one family entertainment destination right here in our community.” Their focus on “purposeful play” will provide children the chance to explore, socialize, and build confidence.
Overcoming Challenges
The biggest challenge the Eldridges face is funding, alongside the search for an appropriate location. Kassandra remarked, “A project of this size takes a lot of planning, patience, and persistence.” They are committed to pushing forward, believing that a space like this is essential for Barton County.
This marks the second year the Eldridges have applied for IGNITE funding. Though they didn’t win last year, they see value beyond just financial support. Kassandra stated, “Being part of something that celebrates local businesses and the future of our community is incredibly special.”
Community Support and Future Aspirations
The couple has been heartened by the support they’ve received during this journey. Kassandra praised Great Bend Economic Development for their commitment to local businesses, highlighting their guidance and resources.
If they win the grand prize, the funding would primarily go toward purchasing the large indoor play structure. “This would be a significant step in turning our vision into reality,” Kassandra expressed, adding that they would honor IGNITE’s impact with a sign on the play structure reading “IGNITE YOUR PLAY.”
The Eldridges hope that Great Bend Play Place will create jobs, attract visitors, and invigorate local businesses. “We want to fill a much-needed gap for local families,” Kassandra stated, underscoring their desire to contribute positively to Barton County.
As parents of three, the Eldridges view community as vital to their lives. “We are proud to call Great Bend our home,” Kassandra said, emphasizing their commitment to giving back to the community that supports them.
